Powhatan State Park

We are now on our way to the Powhatan State park via The Huguenot Trail, Rt. 711. Well it is an RVs nightmare! We followed a regular gps from Chesterfield to Powhatan and this is how it took us. The only thing I can say is avoid it!

This state park only has 29 sites, luckily 10 were still available. I’m really proud, my husband had to back it into the space and did it on the first try!!! Woohoo! We got settled in a little quicker and smoother then the first time.  It is pitch black here due to lack of any other campers.

Okay learned how to use hot water helps when doing dishes. Especially as I unpack things we brought from the house. Most of the week was going back and worth from camp site to house getting it ready to have open house on July 22. I’m so exhausted from painting or cleaning, and plain just not shutting down at night. Well by Friday everything I could do was done. The house was empty with a couple of things only our contractor can do.

Well our house is now listed!!! Monday we will see how it all went. We are slowly getting back into a routine, like eating more at the RV. David finally tried the shower today. David went off to work and I’m going to continue the unpacking! Does it get any better than this….lol!

I must say I am ashame that I didn’t check out powhatan earlier. There is some great little mom and pop restaurants out here!

We are continuing to travel to the house and the RV. Over the weekend there was an open house but no offers …. 😦

The area is also very pretty alot of horse farms.

Some delays on some last minute things that need to be done at the house. Tomorrow we will go into town and meet with the glass people who are going to fix our patio door. I’m a little excited to get the show on the road. Then new front screen door and rail on pool. DONE!! We will then be able to concentrate on RV, car and traveling. Yeah!!

So tonight David had to go to work and we are limited in what we have to eat due to just moving out of the house and in to the RV. We found this little Italian restaurant in town so I ordered and headed out to pick it up. On the way of course I saw the horses but I also saw 5 wild rabbits and 6 deer eating in a small grassy area. Warms my heart.

Well the end of the 4th week is coming to a end. So far we are doing alright but we also have just been going between 2 state parks. This has allowed us to get to “know” your RV and practice with all the buttons. We finally got all the boxes from the house put away. We are now going through the belongings again…do we really need it mode. We want to lighten the weight as much as possible, it will help with gas mileage.

Funny the things you think about..ex: cooking. I thought about quick prep quick cooking and missing some of the foods we use to cook. My 1st endeavor I set of the smoke detector. Lol then it dawned on me to turn the exhaust fan on while cooking duh…that worked. Phew I thought I’d be cooking on the grill during a rain storm.

In the beginning we would just watch TV but you can only watch so much TV and cleaning the RV I found only takes about 30 mins and your done. Walking needs to be done in the early morning due to the heat. We actually started to play cards again which we hadn’t done in years!

I’m still in awe that I like living in the RV so much. I am so relaxed!!

Being the end of our stay here we got a beautiful show last night the full moon and lightning in the background.

Tons of different butterflies here at the state park

As we wait for our house closing we continue to travel between Powhatan state park and Pocohantas state park. August 13th we are here at Powhatan state park. Pretty quiet at this park with only 29 camp site and there is only 3 of us campers in the park….lol.

So beautiful!

Hitching a ride on our dashboard!

08/17/18 I know the reading is a little confusing that’s because right now we keep bouncing back and forth between 2 state parks. Eventually we will be on our way. But in the mean time we got a surprise yesterday. The dealership gave us a 1 year membership in the Winnebago club! Wicked awesome!! We have already investigated a couple of trips through them.

Winnebago club membership!!!

Well Friday night, date night!!! So we discovered that about 3 miles from the campground there is Courthouse Creek Cider. So we headed to the Creek and had a couple of flights and gourmet cheese board! Sat with another couple and socialized for a couple of hours…fun! Then we went down the road a couple of miles and ate at the local Mexican restaurant….some of the best Mexican food I have ever had and large portions too.

Camping elegantly! Surprise dessert!

08/20 Well overcast today good for a ride to get out for a little bit. We found our self in Hadensville about 20 miles away. On the way we saw an Emu and the town Post Office….lol.

Hadensville Post Office

08/22 So soooooo excited today!!! Yes we booked our 1st winnebago rally here in Va. Then we also booked our 1st go adventuring trip to Albuquerque in October 2019, so we are getting closer to our dream of full time RVing!!

David a day or two ago applied for a Campground Host in Manatee Springs State park. Today he was offered a 20 hour position on the maintenance crew for November and December. So we will be in Florida for 2 months later this year. This is so much fun planning and adventuring.  Yahoooooo!!!

Another great day of retirement! Went to north Chesterfield this afternoon to run errands. Bought yarn to finish a project I’m working on. A little fellow who will make his appearance in October is getting some new clothes. Next we went to get some booties for Peanut (my 11 year old Jack-Chi) that did not work out so well. Growling as I went to put on the last boot. I just thought he would need foot protection when we walk in the woods….oh well.

Next we went to best buy and bought a blue ray DVD player for the RV. YEAH!!! To celebrate we stopped at sonic for limeade happy hour! Our final stop was Kroger’s for some groceries. I went to the Redbox and rented 3 movies while David shopped for I had the dog with me. On the way back David surprised me an took me to a farmer’s market where we bought some small pies, fresh corn and warm empanadas….yummmy!

The empanadas did not make it home. But when we got home and after all the groceries were put away David hooked up the Blu-ray DVD. I made cheese and crackers. A cold grapefruit Leinenkugel beer. Today’s afternoon movie is the Avengers: Infinity Wars…..retirement is great!

Ryker’s Alligator cocoon, hat and blanket.

Afternoon munchies at the movies!

Avengers!!

Well Sunday August 26 is our 34th Anniversary but unfortunately David has to work so we decided to celebrate on the 25th. We started out by going to kindred spirit brewery. It was their second Anniversary so the place was really hopping with a band, food, people and of course beer. We tried a couple of flights and a cheese Philly that we split. I definitely would go back!

Next we decided to go to the Cheesecake factory for dinner. Once got there we ordered drinks and decided to just have a few horderves. It was wonderful.

On the way home the moon was soooooo bright in the sky.

Enjoy!! They have about 16 beers on tap!

Band playing!

Funny beer prayer….

Beautiful

Amazing

August 27th. Well our time has ended at Powhatan state park!!
